We The Fans: Kraken Look to Get Back to Winning Against Calgary Flames

Generational talents have one thing in common, they work hard and they do not take days off from anything that can help them be better at their craft. All they want to do is play good hockey. I myself am probably a little too obsessed with the thrill of good hockey and the thought of winning hockey being found here in Seattle. As I sit and watch a packed Lumen field rock with people as the Seahawks work hard to find a 7-0 lead, the Kraken look to work equally hard to end their three game losing streak and worst ten game stretch in franchise history that’s seen them fall to 6th in the Pacific division and 7 points from the thought of any wildcard. The teams season has taken a wrong turn, but the Kraken look to get back on the right track against the 13-17-4 Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Arena; a stadium I have yet to cross off the list of NHL stadiums tour. This is the first game on the Kraken four game road trip, that’s sees them play tonight then Saturday in San Jose before finishing with a Monday and Tuesday back to back against the Ducks then Kings.

The Kraken should look to bring the same compete level they brought against Colorado on the road if the look to get back on the right track as they can gain points on teams that are above them in the standings and close the gap. Should the team fail to get a victory tonight it’s hard to see this road trip ending with Kraken having chance to make the playoffs at all. With key contributors Jared McCann and Jaden Schwartz out of the lineup, the Kraken should look to drive the net hard and look to capitalize off using their strength and IQ to create chances for themselves. Confidence is crucial in the NHL as the Kraken may be lacking it with the recent stretch of injuries but their is a bright side to for fans of the Kraken as they are 4-1-1 against the Flames over their last 6 meetings.

Only time will tell if some of the younger guys in the Kraken system can find a way to produce for the Kraken. A 4 game win streak would surely save the hope for being buyers rather than sellers at the trade deadline, which unfortunately may benefit the team for the long term. Kartye, Meyers, and Melanson line. The Flames have -16 goal differential while while the Kraken have a -18 goal differential. With Brandon Montour out the lineup the Kraken should look to see defender Jamie Oleksiak step up and play quality minutes for the Kraken. Calgary will look to push the pace early in the game as the Kraken are expected to end this losing streak. The biggest difference between this years team and the year they led the league in 5 on 5 goals is they are lacking patience in their decision making and also the confidence to shoot the puck when the opportunity presents itself…

Let’s go Kraken!

Very Respectfully,

Caleb Nance
